My example for this post is 1979’s “Children and Ponds” narrated by Robert Powell.

I resent having my heartstrings tugged so blatantly by the use of a long blonde haired cutie pie.

Given the manner of her demise, did they cut the part where Frankenstein’s Monster encounters her?

And, about the child’s toy standing in for the small child’s floating body…

 
Garden ponds and swimming pools pose a danger to small children. I live in Arizona where every year children drown in the backyard pool because they snuck out, someone went inside to answer the
phone, a caretaker was taking a nap.
I don’t remember this commercial, but
evidently it was a problem back then.

The PIF is from 1979. It looks hokey and manipulative now because production techniques have changed and the public expects to see something different.

At the time it probably would have grabbed the attention of TV viewers by shifting from the happy 70s country garden tone to the scary music tone at the end.
 
Swim lessons for children are so important. Toddlers, infants, can learn
