Hello,

Has anyone ever gone to public high school, and notice that their own faith is attacked? I realized this quite recently, and it’s pretty discouraging.

It is very discouraging, but causes people to fight for their faith. I went to public high school and I go to a large, secular college. It makes it much easier to see who is living out their faith; that’s for sure!

Fulton Sheen once said that if you want your children to lose their faith, send them to Catholic school. If you want them to fight for their faith, send them to public school.

I wasn’t active in my faith in high school so I can’t totally relate, but now as a young adult who is surrounded by a lot of secular people, it is hard. However God WILL give you grace to persevere. Never stop asking him for more strength!

Also, seeing a young high school student on these forums asking this question makes me very happy! Stay strong!

Also, from my experience, every year you are out of high school, you care less about the attacks you received from other kids. Since you have MANY years to live and enjoy out of high school compared to the 4 years of being in it, the stress during this time will ultimately turn into a little spot on your life’s timeline.

Yes! All you need to do is uphold your beliefs, though! God bless!!!:)🙂

I went to public school all my life and then studied in a Catholic University. My faith was always firm and never shaken until some sexual abuse happened to me in the form of exhibitionism 6+ months before going to Catholic University. Then it all went downhill, and a year before graduation, I came back on track with much courage and higher faith thanks to Opus Dei.

I have always been very honest about my faith in front of people, everyone respected me because of it, but not everyone agreed with it.

I went to Public School and University. I rediscovered the Faith late in High School and really solidified being a Catholic in college.

Our religion gets attacked everywhere, honestly don’t let it affect you. Let this make your faith stronger

I went to public school all my life except for Christian preschool. It is good exposure to the non Catholic real world. I was not the best Catholic in high school though

That quote is often attributed to Fulton Sheen but not verified. Even if he did say it, he died 37 years ago so the advice can hardly be applied to public schools of today.
