I had forgotten that the homily was formerly considered outside the Mass. Does this mean it might have been more permissible for a non-Catholic to give the homily under the old usage?The sermon is now considered part of the Mass.
It seems to me it would probably be permissible to invite the congregation to stay after the dismissal to hear a non-Catholic minister deliver a talk, and perhaps such a talk could even be given during the announcements, as part of the concluding rites.
