Punishment for allowing evil to grow?

I was thinking about how different the world is today compared to when Jesus walked the earth, the time period when he was here, I wonder what the public reaction would be if such things as abortion occurred in every day life, would the church and public in general have just sat back as we do today and allow it to go on?

In our modern times, many immoral things occur all the time, and many of them are even encouraged and laws created to protect them. The church does state its views though, when it disagrees with them, but is that enough in Gods eyes? People who are followers of God and members of a church parish have jobs, families, go out in public, etc, yet at the same time, they read articles about abortion in the paper, and online, but really do not do anything about it, other than some that choose to protest in various forms, but as we can see, that has done nothing to stop or even slow it down.( im using abortion as an example here, but also referring to other immoral things that go on in modern times).

I sometimes wonder why the church does not take a more pro-active approach to serving God, Why are church members not going out and trying to stop these things? Is it only because they are following the legal law of the land, and just preserving their own lives and freedom, scared of being arrested, sent to jail? Is this an excuse that would hold weight with God?

Our legal system has laws and police are out every day to enforce their laws, so why is the church not doing the same thing with Gods laws, even if it contradicts with mans laws? After all, we are taught Gods law is more important.

I have a feeling many believers will be held accountable in the end for this type of thing, I m not saying Im any different, I am against abortion, but I also have to consider my freedom, and desire to not be in jail, so I choose to follow the laws of the land, even though it contradicts with Gods laws, I can imagine standing before God at my death and him saying, “well, mike, you seemed to only be concerned with your own life and freedom and not trying to stop these evils from growing, and all because you are afraid of being arrested”? maybe if more people stood up,and banded together and went against mans laws, things would change, after all, the police can only arrest so many people. LOL

People are doing many things to help stop and slow down abortion (and other issues).

The Church helps to do that as well.

People pray outside of abortion mills. People outside the abortion mills offer mothers another choice.

Mothers leave the abortion mill with their child alive.

Parishes and Diocese help to keep prayer warriors and sidewalk helpers outside the abortion mills. (This act of charity is not a protest.)

Parishes and Dioceses help to maintain Crisis Pregnancy Centers. Mothers receive friendship, love and compassion from these centers. They receive education. They are given gifts of diapers, baby clothes, maternity clothes, etc.

Missionaries of Charity Sisters (Mother Teresa’s Sisters) offer homes for pregnant mothers who have no place to live. I’m sure other Catholic organizations provide housing for mothers, as well.

Dioceses provide pro-life education to parishioners through the Diocese and Parish Respect Life “office”.

Dioceses help with Pro-life Laws - at state and national level - to help slow and stop abortion.

Dioceses offer Post Abortion Healing Programs for mothers, fathers, and others affected by abortion.

The work of the Pro-Life people does make a difference. Prayer and fasting does help stop abortion. The lives saved - make a big difference.

Ask the Respect Life coordinator at your parish and the Diocese Respect Life Director for ways you can help as well. I think you will be greatly blessed while blessing others.

Following on from the first post, if anyone is interested try getting a copy of the Didache. The author is unknown but this very short work it is apparently the first written record of the church’s catechism. According to my translation “The Catholic Church has accepted it as part of the collection of Apostolic Fathers”. What struck me is that they faced the same issues, fought against the same sins within themselves and society. The book states that abortion and killing those born is wrong.

While it is true that these days we can slaughter and commit other sins on a larger scale, we can also band together on a large scale to offer practical help and prayer, whether it is through the internet, resource giving and/or prayer. The major differences between the early Church and us today seems to be that we are fragmented (although God willing this will change) so we have a smaller voice, and we are better connected through the electronic media. Obviously there are loads of other developments but the core values of the early and current Church (appear to me) to bear much similarities e.g. sin, baptism, Eucharist and priests etc.

I know that when my day of judgement comes, I will not have personally carried out everything, but was I called to do it all? I am content to be in the backroom (unless He says otherwise) trying to support the troops e.g. the Church, priests and missionaries.

P.S. Just read the 2nd post, even if all we can give is a few pennies and prayers to the above resources, at least we are giving and helping the good fight.

I think that we are no different to our predessors when it comes to evil/sin. Okay so we in this day and age have more knowledge of the wider world than they may have done but evil and sin is no different. I am certain of that. It the sad thing for me in that 2013 years later and we are in no better position than Christ’s day as such. We got the Bible which they didn’t have. I don’t know how much Church was taught back then to what we are taught today. We are shown how to Love one another and the parables are explained to us. If we don’t understand it in one form we get to understand it in another. We can read for ourselves and do not have to rely on others but this hasn’t seem to gotten us any further in how we handle evil and sin. We will always commit sin. But why are we so vulberable to saying sorry. Not just to God but looking after each other as we are taught to do so. We are much greedier than our predessors that is for sure. Material and financial wealth are above spiritual being with God. We are happy if all our bills are paid and have our own hobbies eat well and have fresh air. If one is out of sync then we neglet God or turn our anger onto Him. Well actually that is okay if we are being angry with God because we are not negleting Him as such. But we are forgetting each other. Love one another as Jesus taught us to do isn’t just about being able to turn to people in Church and give them the sign of the peace and being able to receive communion in peace. It is much deeper than that. Being able to not succumb to soceity demands of greed and live simply and that don’t mean you can’t have your ipods and gym memberships that you don’t actually use. Just be aware that the world is simply getting more and more greedy and how can we turn it around that we are no longer driven by monetary gain of whether it money or any form of bartering. All we work for is to have enough to be able to do rather than simply being able to enjoy being alive.That never appears on people’s Christmas List does it. We want a holiday a new tv a new car some food our own roof over our heads our kids to achieve and and and. No one ever says they want to simply be able to enjoy being alive ’ and also work towards creating a less greedy world. We together can turn it around if we stop fighting who is the right Church. But we are too busy in battle to really appreciate peace and strife for peace real peace not just token peace.
No, I firmly believe that in 2013 we are no better than when the Disciples walked the Earth with Jesus.

I do not believe the world has more evil today. I believe evil evolves. Evil tries to mask itself has something else, something secular or sometimes even holy.

During the days of Jesus, most of the world was worshiping pagan gods. People would cheer has Gladiators would slaughter other human beings in the name of sport. Prostitution, homosexuality, bisexuality, incest, bestiality, killings, theft, political corruption, etc was everywhere. Unwanted children were killed or sold into slavery. Evil was everywhere.

Yes, we still have those things, but also have billions of people in this world who do not take part in that stuff. There are over one billion Catholics alone. Most of the people on this planet reject evil when they recognize it. Which is why the devil tries to conceal evil.

In terms of abortion, it’s simply killing unwanted children before they are born instead of after they are born. The devil is simply trying to make the evil appear to be not by saying “they are not yet human” or “they do not yet have a soul.”

Evil has always been here. But thanks to the internet and the media; there is more information about the evil in this world (which may or may not be a good thing, considering the internet & media also provide mis-information).
