Yeah, I’ve been doing these things and he has gotten better than when we first had him. We always eat first, he sits for EVERYTHING, and he always looks away if I stare at him hard, even when we’re playing tug he keeps looking to the sides.

Oh and yesterday I was very happy, I began to pet him before I fed him, and lo and behold, he turned on his back, with his little paws dangling and let me rub his belly while he kicked his leg like dogs do.

I LOVE that pic! (I can really appreciate it being a former GSD owner 😃 ). I used to have it posted up on my computer monitor.

Sound like you’re doing great! 👍

As for the mouthing, I wouldn’t be too worried about that. It is completely normal, especially for this breed. Mason was TERRIBLE about it. He was quite the brat for awhile, but he did eventually grow out of it. We just had to be very consistent about abruptly ending playtime when he did it. They learn really fast that it’s not fun anymore when they nip. And they don’t like that, they want to have FUN, lol…
