For the show they are putting on here, not everything is donated, but many have reduced their prices.
The venue has dropped their price, but there is still a cost for the room and lunchen. The entertainment has not dropped its price, so the full fee for the band has to be paid. All the printing has to be paid for. The expenses of the meetings has to be met–for example, a couple meetings include serving a meal. One meeting is a father/daughter dance/meal and a discussion on dating.
The lighting crew, the stage (runway)–all this costs money.
I do not believe that this is a fundraiser for Regnum Christi. It’s just an expensive program to put on. And, I do think it’s one of those experiences that could have a lifelong impact.
Here’s some of the formation meeting topics:
Spotlight on Beauty, Social graces for moms and daughters, public speaking, outreach ministry, weekend retreat on purity, pure dating, hair and makeup day, navigating the runway of life, and the show.
I know lots of Regnum Christi women, attended days of reflections, attended youth retreats, and I’ve never once seen evidence of cultish behavior.
I’ve thought about the vanity issue. And, my conclusion is that young girls are consumed with vanity and self image problems that come not from focusing on beauty per se. I believe they come from the negative and exploitative messages the girls get from popular culture.
The best cure, then, would be to give them an authentic Catholic formaton in modesty, beauty, and purity. I think ignoring formation in this area is just letting society form them in its distorted view.
I know my teens and young adulthood were consumed with negative body image and confusion over how to “use” my feminity.
I’m looking for more
personal experiences, good or bad, with the actual show. Negative comments are fine, but I’d appreciate it if they were confined to actually experiences.
