Can anyone lessen my fear of Purgatory? Does suffering on earth help lessen my or others time in Purgatory? What does the church teach about Purgatory other than what is in the catechism?

Fear of Purgatory? What, exactly, are you afraid of? Be afraid of Hell. Purgatory is the first rung of Heaven’s ladder.

Your suffering on earth can be used to reduce or eliminate your time in Purgatory so long as you offer your sufferings for that intention. Which is why many regard suffering on earth as a blessing rather than a punishment. I believe that it is better for us to satisfy our temportal punishment in this life rather than in the next. Thank God that Purgatory exists or most of us would never enter the gates of heaven.
