Do Catholics still believe in Purgatory? Because I have often heard from other Catholics that Purgatory no longer exist. If it doesn’t, then what happen to it and what happen to the people there?
 
Catholics still believe in Purgatory. That has not changed. I am grateful for that real option.
 
Yes, Catholics still believe in Purgatory. Even books that I consider are from the modernist side will usually tow the party line on Purgatory.

I think it’s only “toe the party line” when you are a democrate with your big foot in your mouth! :rotfl:

It’s “toe” – Lining up with toes along a straight line, like a military drill.

Pretty large assumption on your part. I just got asked this by my luke warm Catholic relative as a sincere question. Maybe it’s in search of the truth. An ounce of charity…

Again, I am real glad I have no questions today.

  1. This person is ON the internet, and found THIS forum. How did he NOT find anything on purgatory?? Really.
    2. The “ounce of charity” was what to put in the search box, so he could get 22,000 commentaries, both pro and con.
    3. If he follows my suggestion, he will be certain, and need not take my word for it.
    4. His profile says “Catholic / Christian”. We shall see.

God forbid a fallen away catholic has sincere questions that aren’t directly related. Have a little faith in people.

I would like to apologize on behalf of TNT. Sometimes we forget that as christians we should love everyone regardless of the motives.

I’ve been with trollers for 6 years. I did not make a big assumption.

If Catholics no longer believe in Purgatory, the day wouldn’t be far off when they would likewise no longer believe in a hell, or heaven, or angels, or even God. They would then become indistinguishable from atheists. Christianity by then would have become a bad joke foisted upon the collective head of humanity.

Let us be thankful that there is a Purgatory, since this means that even after death, those not yet freed from sin can still undergo some process of purgation prior to being admitted to heaven! Thanks be to God.

After Jesus’ Death 01.24.05…3.15pm I attended Catholic schools from the 1st through graduation. I believe I remember a prayer or creed that stated that Jesus decended into Hell before ascending into Heaven. Am I remembering that right? If so, what is the name of that prayer, and why did Jesus do this, was it to save the souls of those who had died before?
