Puritans: Where did they go???

I pretty well versed in Church history, American history, and the like. Puritans are responsible for establishing so much of the original colonies and credit deserves them.

But I have to ask…where did they go?? Really! Did they morph into a different denomination? Did they die out? It’s kind of funny thing to think that the religious group that was responsible for founding many of the original colonies, aren’t around!
And even through Google, I’m having trouble finding out what happened. Though Robin Williams did have something funny to say about it.

It’s a good question. According to the wikipedia they became Quakers, Congregationalists and Presybterians:

some, like the Shakers in Kentucky, decided that reproduction was a sin. Umm they died out soon after.

The New England “Puritans” were Congregationalists. They didn’t “become” Congregationalists. They were Congregationalists from the beginning. Today most Congregationalists are part of the predominantly liberal “United Church of Christ.” The Unitarians also have Congregationalist roots. Some conservative Congregationalists do remain, but they’re a small minority.

So the short answer is: they became liberal Protestants.
