Maybe just put a brief pamphlet in the pews with the missals and songbooks? Just a quick examination of the consciousness list and a simply paragraph on how we can benefit from confession.

People don’t realize that confession isn’t just about saying how many times you did this. You can express your sorrow for things and work problems out with the priest… people don’t know this I don’t think.

Raise awareness maybe the key.

Sounds good…but you may want to check with the priest there first, just so he doesn’t get surprised by a parishioner saying, “There’s this weird card in all our missals!”

Confession is one of the best gifts we have; we need to use it!

Well, of course this would have to be ran by the priest and you would have to get him on the same page. I think it is a brillant idea.

That’s a great idea! I just graduated from the 8th grade, and I was thinking about making some posters and hanging them up in that school and in my new high school. It is truly sad that the Sacrament of Reconciliation is so neglected. The worst thing is how people almost always receive Holy Communion, but never go to Penance. What an abuse of the the Blessed Sacrament! Thanks.

Your brother in Christ,

Matthew, you are a bright young man!
God Bless you!

Fantastic idea. At all the parishes where I’ve ever attended Mass, there are the inevitable people who will read the missalette, bulletin, even the hymnal, just to avoid hearing the homily. These brochures would be perfect. Something new to read, plus it educates them and hopefully gives them a push in the right direction. 👍

Fabulous idea! Put together two or three brouchures before you set that appointment with the pastor.

I think you’re putting a most uncharitable spin on it. Many folks don’t understand the homilies. For many years, the mass I attended was in Polish, and I certainly don’t understand enough Polish to be able to follow a priest’s message in the language.

I think you’d find the same in many parishes at many masses, although I am sure it varies fairly widely.

As far as confessions, of course the Church wants the people to avail itself of the sacrament’s graces, but its impracticle to have everyone in confession even monthly.

Its a very time intensive sacrament and there are just not that many priests available.

Its true that Padre Pio and St. John Vianney supposedly spent 10 or 12 hours daily in the confessional, but those were exceptional individuals.
