So my brother was playing a game, (a grand theft auto game) and I was watching him, so while he was playing he had an option to do something in the game which would definitely be considered a lustful action (he didn’t choose it). Would it have been a mortal sin if I chose to watch him and put myself in temptations way? ( I was almost positive that if he chose the lustful option I could have looked away and not watched him)

It’s considered a near occasion of sin, and to willingly put yourself in one is a venial sin. But if you started thinking lustfully while watching it THEN you would have committed a mortal sin.

Being in a near occasion of sin can be not a sin …or a sin. Depending.

A near occasion of sin is not “any temptation”.

A near occasion for a mortal sin (generally when one speaks of near occasions they mean mortal) is some thing or person or place etc what generally leads one to commit a particular mortal sin…(or likely will)…(one could word it other ways but that is the jist)

it can be of the nature that it generally leads most to sin…or a particular person.

We are obliged usually to avoid such…and can sin by putting ourselves in them or remaining in them…voluntarily…without say some sufficiently good reason… (ones confessor can help one judge).

There can be good reasons where one must be in such…some one can not even avoid…or there can be occasions which are not really near occasions here…

There can be venial sin in doing so without a good reason.

And there can even mortal sin (when the three aspects are there…for example one knows that one will consent to a mortal sin of Y if one goes into that occasion…and one does this with full knowledge and deliberate consent…).

As to the game…I do not know much about such. My understanding is that it does not seem to be a game to be playing. Perhaps others know it better.
