My wife and I have just joined a new parish, and I was looking for ideas on how to approach the pastor about putting the Blessed Sacrament back into Church on the alter. Right now, the church doesn’t even have a place where adoration occurs. I know that some churches have perpetual adoration in a separate chapel. This church has none of this which really saddens me. I love praying in front of Christ in the Eucharist. I don’t want to step on any toes in this new church, but it really bothers me that this isn’t offered. Ideas are welcome. God Bless!!

So where IS the tabernacle??? Or isn’t there one?

It’s in an open room on one side of the church.
So is this room supposed to be a Blessed Sacrament chapel? Or is it just a room?

If you are specifically wanting to start up perpetual adoration (or at least some scheduled time for this) I think you need to be able to demonstrate to the pastor that there are sufficient people interested. Most priests would respond to such a request with an answer something like, “OK, I’m putting you in charge. You set everything up, show me your plans, and I’ll give my approval.”

Since you are new to the parish you probably want to start out inquiring whether there are already other people interested. Perhaps an existing parish prayer group? You might want to become involved in such a group and then see if these folks would consider a special day of prayer in front of the Eucharist. If it goes well, you might consider making this to monthly. If there is sufficient interest you can make it weekly. And so on.

Perhaps trying to have Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament on the altar would be best, rather than the expense of a separate chapel.
Perpetual adoration requires a considerable time commitment from people. According to the 2004 Instruction Redemptionis Sacramentum: “[138.] Still, the Most Holy Sacrament, when exposed, must never be left unattended even for the briefest space of time. It should therefore be arranged that at least some of the faithful always be present at fixed times, even if they take alternating turns.”
In arguing for Expostion or Benediction, the following from Redemptions Sacramentum may be helpful:
“[139.] Where the diocesan Bishop has sacred ministers or others whom he can assign to this purpose, the faithful have a right to visit the Most Holy Sacrament of the Eucharist frequently for adoration, and to take part in adoration before the Most Holy Eucharist exposed at least at some time in the course of any given year.”

Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration requires considerable “logistics”… not only several hundred volunteers, but also a chapel that is secure at midnight hours… and allows the main part of the church building to be kept secure and locked to prevent thefts or vandalism of church property.

Pray to the Holy Spirit for all the guidance and direction necessary… you would be surprised!!!
