A: A Mass with the 1962 Missal, offered at 7 a.m. in a distant corner of the Diocese of Orange.
The first Tridentine Mass in a six-month “experiment” was offered this mornng in the chapel of John Paul II Polish Center in Yorba Linda, California. The other sanctioned by the diocese is in the tiny Serra Chapel of Mission San Juan Capistrano, and it is always packed to overflowing.
This morning’s Mass was celebrated by a Norbertine priest from St. Michael’s Abbey, the source for Latin Mass priests in San Diego. It was as reverent as would be expected for a TLM, and was introduced by a spokesman for the bishop. At the end of the Mass, Father George Blais welcomed those present and suggested that a more accommodating hour might be possible in the future. Una Voce of Orange County has been in the forefront of getting this indult Mass approved.
