Qestioning Absolution

I went to Confession last night and received Absolution but then after I left to say my Penance I felt that maybe I didn’t really explain the situation to the Priest. Am I still absolved of all my sins? Has anyone had a situation where you confess a sin to a Priest and he takes it as really not being a sin and then you do the same thing again and confess it to a different priest and he gives the impression that it is a sin? Does anyone else have problems with not knowing if a specific thing is a sin or not or if they are a sin, is it a mortal sin. I know there are three things that make something a mortal sin (grave matter, full knowledge and full consent) but do some things change when you are married as far as the 6th and 9th commandments go? I have read about scruples and I think that is one of my problems. When I came out of the room after I was absolved I wanted to go back to a different Priest and do it all over again. I know I am acting a little crazy but I was wondering if anyone else feels this way sometimes. Any feedback?

sounds to me like you are suffering from scruples. remember, when you confess, you are confessing to Jesus first and foremost, not the priest. While the priest can’t read your mind, Jesus can and knows what you meant to confess even if you didn’t put it into words perfectly for the priest. Please don’t doubt your absolution - you don’t need to “do it over.” be at peace. As for the 6th and 9th commandments, not quite sure what you mean there. could you elaborate a bit? Anyhow, you sound scrupulous and you should get some help for it. Is there a priest you know that you could talk to about this?

if the priest absolved you, you have been absolved. the sacraments work as Christ promised. the root of your question is doubt about the efficacy of the sacrament. Trust in Jesus, who gave is this beautiful gift, and accept the fact that you are whiter than snow when you emerge from the confessional and thank God for it.

it does indeed sound like you are suffering from scruples. i have struggled with it myself so i know what u are going through. may i recommend the group Scrupulous Anonymous? they are wonderful and their 10 commandments for the scrupulous, found here, i think might help u a lot.
