I was reflecting on this subject for many years. I have been in direction for 20+ years and I was just wondering how do others approach this kinda thing in their life. How do you handle your struggles and blessings? I know we are called to holiness no matter what state of life we are in…how we handle it is as diverse as there are people. Maybe we can help each other…

Blessings,
Shoshana

Pray the Rosary… Go to Confession regurlarly, attend Mass on all days of obligation… go to communion every chance you get… love God with all your heart, mind, body and soul, and love your neighbor as yourself… 👍

How I quest for Holiness:
  • I try to live each moment for God.
  • In everything I do, I do with God.
  • I try to pray always (using many different forms).
  • I try to see Jesus within everyone I encounter.
  • I seek to love more each day and pray actively for it as well. (I can assure you that if you ask God to help you love more each day and really want it, He will grant it.)
  • I try to keep away from, as much as possible, those things that lead me away from God.
  • I try to encourage others around me into holier lifes.
  • I surrender everything to God and let him lead as I do the work.
  • I receive the Eucharist as often as I can.
  • I go to Confession as often as I can.
  • I remember that everything, regardless of how small, comes from God.

In addition to the above…I just started reading “imitation of Christ” by Thomas A Kempis…very simple yet profound and straighforward. 🙂

I wrote a tract recently on how to get started living a holy, maximally Catholic life — which is actually the same way I got started yon many years ago.

Sunday Mass, follow fast&abstinence rules, etc.
Morning Offering first thing every morning
Examination of conscience every night before bed
at least one work of mercy every day

the full tract is at

Enjoy! and build those spiritual muscles!

The way I have flexing those spiritual muscles is this way, AND IT IS SO DIFFICULT!!!

Litany of humility by Cardinal Merry Del Val (Oct 10, 1865-Feb26,1930)

O Jesus, meek and humble of heart, hear me.
From the desire of being esteemed, deliver me, Jesus.
From the desire of being loved, deliver me, Jesus.
From the desire of being extolled, deliver me, Jesus.
From the desire of being honored, deliver me, Jesus.
From the desire of being praised, deliver me, Jesus.
From the desire of being preferred to others, deliver me, Jesus.
From the desire of being consulted, deliver me Jesus.
From the desire of being approved, deliver me, jesus.
From the fear of being humiliated, deliver me Jesus.
From the desire of being despised, deliver me Jesus.
From the fear of suffering rebukes, deliver me Jesus.
From the fear of being calumniated, deliver me Jesus.
From the fear of being forgotten, delier Me, Jesus
From the fear of being ridiculed, deliver me , Jesus.
From the fear of being wronged, deliver me, Jesus.
From the fear of being suspected, deliver me, Jesus.

That others may be loved more than I,
Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it.
That others may be esteemed more than I,
Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it.
That in the opinion of the world,
others may increase and I may decrease,
Jesus grant me the grace to desire it.
That others may be praised and I unnoticed,
Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it.
That others may become holiier than I,
provided that I become as holy as I should,
Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it.

Blessings,
Shoshana

Karen,
Thank you for that wonderful tract. I am printing it out and will try to make it part of my daily activities. I really needed something that clear and straightforward.

Peace,
Linda
