St. Elizabeth of Hungary. I know her feast day is not until Nov. But I’ve always had some questions about her sacrifice to the poor as a mother with children. Does anyone know more about St. Elizabeth of Hungary? I remember learning she had children, but then left royalty to serve the poor and sick and eventually became a nun and died at a young age, 24. I know she led a life of prayer and sacrifice and wanted to be poor herself. However, I never found anything on the calling to be a mother. Were her children looked after by wet nurses and royalty to raise them up to be royalty? I would imagine to become poor with children would be difficult and put the children at risk. Where did the children go if she was able to do this? And not to take away from her title as Saint but what about the call to motherhood?

Wikipedia has a nice summary of St. Elizabeth of Hungary. It appears her family took her children and raised them;
After her husband’s death she sent her children away and regained her dowry, using the money to build a hospital where she herself served
After Louis’ death, his brother, Henry (German: Heinrich) Raspe, assumed the regency during the minority of Elizabeth’s eldest child, Hermann (1222–1241).
