If the Father is efficiating and I want to have a back yard wedding would the church recognize it ?

The Sacrament of Marriage is just that - a Sacrament and as such needs to be held in a church. The church is a perfect place for a wedding. Have your reception outdoors in your backyard!

Can you apply for a dispensation from form from the diocese for this? Some one else here may know the answer. If not call the diocese where you reside and ask them.

pnewton - why would one get married outside of the Church? Why would one want a dispensation for doing so? Blessings -

I am curious because of the realm in which the question was asked (canon law), not the why of it. But if someone has some knowledge in this area, are such dispensations routinely granted or does a reason need to exist?

I thought of another idea for the original poster. If no one replies, why don’t you address this question to the AAA forum?

Thank you for finding me the answer. This clears up my question. Jason.
