In the past I commited the sins of looking at images that contained content that gave me sexual arousal. I should confess them in the confessional. They were images of a certain fetish of mine that is slightly embarrassing. Should I confess what the fetish was, or can I just say that I looked at images that gave me arousal. Would that be considered withholding information from my priest?

Priests do not need all the horney details. You do not have to describe what the images were of just that you looked at images that made you aroused

A recurrent question (understandably!).

Brief answer: No, you don’t have to give any details, except as they might affect the material gravity of the sin - eg. illegal pornography.

I always tell people that less is more. Trust that God is God and knows what you did and why you did it, he mostly just wants to hear you acknowledge it. And trust that Father is an educated man and knows what you’re talking about, and if he doesn’t, he’ll ask. If you say something extremely vague like “I did something I wasn’t supposed to do,” then I’ll follow up, since that could be anything. If you say “I committed sexual sin by myself x number of times,” that’s all I need to know. If you con…
I personally add the recommendation to feel free to add some detail, briefly, if it helps unburden your conscience or relieves the fear of making an invalid confession. That’s my opinion only.

As the others say, Father has heard it all before and the main thing is - just go and get it over with.
