Joan M;11946859:
I don’t see how every action someone takes affects the whole church. I agree that some things a person can do affects everyone else but not
Every sin we commit causes us to separate ourselves from Christ and mortal sin represents total separation from Christ. We are all part of Christ’s body on Earth, we are all connected as one through Christ. Separation of one part of the Body hurts the rest of the Body. When we sin we hurt both Christ and the Church (His Body on Earth). We are His Body therefore one person’s sin hurts us all. Hence the need to confess to a priest as he also represents the Church (therefore represents us all) as well as being in Persona Christi. In early Christian times, people would confess their sins to the entire congregation. Sin is not simply a case of nobody else’s business. When we sin we hurt each other.
