Just curious, how is Dietrich Bonhoeffer received in Catholic theology? Was he a martyr? Was he just a theologian that is generally well received by everyone?

Benjamin: Your question is a really good one. Something I have wondered myself. I hope there is a well versed historian/theology professor on this site to answer your question.
I have admired Bonhoeffer greatly for his courage in the face of Hitler and his power over Bonhoeffer’s life and death. I’m not sure the church would recognize him as a martyr in the strict Catholic sense, but one has to admit, his actions paralleled the faith and action of many a recognized Catholic martyr. In any case, any Catholic familiar with Bonhoeffer and his courage has to hold the man in high esteem.
