I have been attending the EF Mass in our diocese fairly regularly for the last couple of months.
There is one thing, somewhat minor but has puzzled me. On the altar are several framed cards (not sure what the official term) whcih appear to have writing on them. One on the left (Gospel) side, one in the center, and one on the right (Epistle) side.
I have seen the one on the left held by an altar boy during the last Gospel so I assume that’s what it is. The one on the center the Nicene Creed? The one on the right I’m guessing is either the proper prayer read before the epistle or the epistle itself.
Since the priest has an altar missal that contains the other parts of the Mass why would he need to have these parts of the Mass on separate cards? Is this a traditional thing?
