This question is really being put out there for those of you that didn’t always use NFP but are now using it and especially those that used artificial birth control methods, be it pill or IUD or condom or whatever previously. I have heard it tell on shows but also heard it from some on here that there is sometimes a difference that comes about between you and your husband (or wife) within your marriage when you change over to using NFP. Please try to explain as best you can what the huge difference was for you (if there was one - do tell if there wasn’t)-going from artificial contraception to NFP. And for those of you ladies who had men who were used to them being on the pill or some form of ABC, please do tell how you got your husband to go along with this change (I do not want to keep sex from my husband so that’s not really an option). With most it would be going from being able to have relations anytime either would want them to having to curb that desire for in some cases more than a week each month. Personally, we havn’t had success with it, but I’m going to go to some more classes and give it another try (I’ll try to get my husband to go but I’m not sure how up he is for giving this another try) I’m trying to leave it up to God to guide me because generally when i’m off the pill, the bleeding is bad enough to make me pass out or have to have a transfusion.(the reason why I’ve been told it’s o.k. for me to use abc - but I don’t want to have a debate started over whether I was told right or wrong by the Priest). And if I didn’t make this obvious, this is mostly for those couples who are trying to keep from getting pregnant.
God Bless

I will say that if you have medical reasons, you are allowed to use birth control. (To my own knowledge) but I will tell you me experience from birth control pills to NFP

My husband and I have been using NFP (mostly temperature) since we were married (about 2 years). We have to postpone our family because we are living in different cities while we finish graduate school.

I will say that the decision for using NFP was really my husbands. I was not what you would call a practicing catholic per say when we were engaged, but I am so happy that I came back to my faith. I guess we never had the problem of convincing the other to go along with this. I will say that is was a struggle at first. Any change in your schedule is I think.

The best thing about the switch was that I know and understand my own cycle. I really think every woman should. If I was not using NFP I would never know things about my cycle. This will really help us when we start a family. I also never liked the pill. It changed my moods at times. Having a method that is natural is wonderful for me.

Using NFP changed our marriage. It was a struggle in the beginning, but we talked it through, and our marriage is much stronger because of it. What really changed was the increase in communication that NFP taught us. We also strengthen our faith as well. What is key to using NFP was that we were both committed and willing to figure it out together.

Hope this helps.
