I know that Christians are commanded to forgive one another and that there is nothing that says you must be a door mat.
What the guidelines for avoiding becoming a door mat?
Is believing that trust is earned contrary to forgiveness?
Can you take actions against becoming hurt by that person again?

I don’t know the exact answer, but one of the seven virtues of spirit, or something along those lines, is instructing the ignorant, as in correcting people when they’re doing something wrong. That’s being forceful for good ends, so I can’t imagine how the same idea can’t apply to forgiveness… If somebody’s cruel to you, tell them in some way that you don’t like it, and then just stay away from them. Voicing your unhappiness with the situation and leaving are perfect ways to not be helpless and to also ‘turn the other cheek.’
