Question about God In Judaism

I have a question maybe someone can help me with. I have noticed Christians and Muslims debating about Allah, but I do not see many threads about Judaism.

Last week I heard an Orthodox Jew mention the God of Christianity and their God, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Part of this, believe it or not, began as a genealogy and Mormon microfilm discussion, whom we all agreed are great record keepers. And also agreed that if there is an enthusiast Mormon researching in a family center at the same time, we risk being witnessed too. LOL But there was no malice on anyone’s part or rudeness.

Now I am curious, I have never heard a Jewish person mentioning the God of Judaism as being a different God. I see God as our creator, so as the same. And I understand they are monotheists. I get that part.

I do know Messianic Jews who are Jewish by birth through their mother but converted, But I do not want to ask in person.

And looking online made it even more confusing, I dd not realize that there were so many types of Judaism. I also realized this could be a sensitive subject.

Does anyone know the answer? Is that a mainstream belief of Judaism, that we do not worship the same God? I’m hoping there may be Jewish members who post in the non catholic forum too.

Are you asking whether we see God as perceived by Christians and Muslims as a different God or whether we consider that Christians and Muslims have some kind of wrong understanding of God? Saying ‘the Christian God’ could just well mean ‘God as perceived by Christians’.

Two Jews, three opinions but, largely, I’d suggest that we’re not that bothered. We certainly don’t think that Christians and Muslims are, in any way, disadvantaged by having different understandings of God than we do, it’s just that we don’t share those understandings. Often, especially with Christians, it sounds almost like a different God - those ‘persons’ etc - but, as to whether the ‘God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob’ holds that against them is another matter.

I could have left Islam out of it, I just wanted people to know I was serious and did not want anything to get ugly like it has on some of the other threads I suppose,. LOL

I was confused too. You helped clear it up a little. I couldn’t figure out if the person who said that meant we perceive God as different because of our cultural differences, or that the God we worship was indeed a different God.

I also get confused on what makes people Jewish. I do not understand Messianic and thought they were Christians who enjoyed some of the Jewish customs. And then I discovered someone I know was born to a Jewish mother. They left Judaism. But that’s probably not the norm.
