Question about greek

Hello,

My church has just purchased an Icon of our lady of Sorrows…The Icon has the letters MP OY on it could anyone out there give me a translation as to what those greek letters mean?
 
The letter that you are calling O probably has a line in the middle of it, and is the Greek letter Theta.

The letters are Mu Rho Theta and Upsilon, which is the abbreviation for Mater Theoy, Mother of God.

OK, so what are the rho and the upsilon for? And is it an upsilon, or a gamma? Normally, each letter is the start of a word…
