Hello. I’ve recently started to pray the rosary daily while before I used to pray it every once in a while, usually in very difficult times.
Now I pray a decade every day but meditate only a mystery depending on the day…so for example, today it’s Monday so I pray a decade and meditate the first one of the joyful mysteries. Next Monday I’m gonna pray another decade and the second one of the joyful mysteries. On the third Monday another decade and the third one of the joyful mysteries…and so on, on the fifth Monday I pray the fifth joyful mystery and than start again. Same goes for all the other mysteries the other days of the week. It’s okay to pray the rosary like this?

You can do this, if you are pressed for time or just getting started praying again. One mystery goes with one decade, so you’re basically doing it right.

You may want to work up to praying 5 decades in a day to make the full rosary. It normally takes only about 15 minutes to a half hour to say the whole thing, and if you get interrupted then you can finish it later in the day when you have time again.

Allow me to be “that guy” for a moment. 😏

I’m sure you’re busy with your life, as we all are; however, your spiritual life must take priority over all else. Learn to pray the entire rosary daily. It’s really not that difficult. I actually look forward to praying the rosary in silence when my day is busy.

As was mentioned, it does not take a long time. I’m sure you have 15-30 minutes a day to pray it. You can break up the day with the decades as well. Say one in the morning, two over the course of the day, etc.

Priorities first, my friend. And nothing should take priority over your spiritual life. The rosary is one of our greatest weapons. Use it.

I will get off my soap box now.

The Rosary is great but if you are not used to saying it then it can seem v e r y l o o o n g. As a kid learning to say it, it seemed to go on forever.

Now, as an experienced Rosary practitioner, 5 decades goes fast and some days I can even do 15 decades. I’ve also done multiple Rosaries in a day when I had lots of prayer intentions or was trying to catch up on a novena.

The important thing is building a prayer habit. One decade said faithfully each day is better than trying to say the whole thing, becoming discouraged, and quitting entirely.

I do agree that it’s preferable to do the whole 5 decades in a day, and this is a goal to be worked towards. But if that’s not happening for some reason (and I’ve BTDT), one decade, or even one Hail Mary, is better than nothing.

The little kids at Fatima, two of whom are now saints and the third blessed used to say the rosary in shortcut form so they would have more time to play. They would just repeat “Hail Mary” ten times to get through a decade. Whatever you are doing now is great, but it could be better.
I recommend you join the Confraternity of the Rosary. Google Rosary Center and look into it. They require three rosaries per week for a total of 15 decades minimally, but I find it best to say five decades every day. The benefit is to have so many holy people who are in this fraternity to be praying for you daily. God bless.
