A friend of mine believes that since Jesus never said specifically that we should worship him that we either don’t have to or shouldn’t worship him. I came up with a response to it but I don’t know for sure if it’s theologically sound or not. Perhaps, the Holy Spirit inspired it. But on the other hand I’ve been attacked by the demonic quite a lot over the last year to the point where I am getting an assessment from a priest if I should get an exorcism or not. Anywho, my response to my friend’s belief is that telling us that we should worship him is something that Jesus would not or could not ever do because it would be a contradiction of his nature. That contradiction being that part of his nature is that of perfect humility so a statement like “Worship me” would be an impossibility. I thought this might be a good place to ask. Thanks.

Jesus said, “God is Spirit, and those who worship him must worship in Spirit and truth.”

Jesus is God (He said, “the Father and I are one”). Therefore, He is identifying that there is worship of God (and so, worship of Himself).

The Magi worship Jesus (and there is no indication that this is improper).

When Jesus walked on water and then got into the boat, the apostles worshiped Him, and He didn’t object.

On Palm Sunday, the people in Jerusalem worship Jesus, using liturgical language from the Feast of Tabernacles, and Jesus doesn’t object.

On Easter Sunday, Jesus meets the women and they worship Him. Again, no objection.

A week after Easter, Thomas worships Jesus (“my Lord and my God!”)… no objection.

During His earthly ministry, Jesus had no problem telling folks to stop doing things that were wrong. He never told those who worshipped Him to cut it out. So, if He never said “stop it”… and if it was proper for the saints in the Bible to do… are we really saying we can not or should not do it ourselves?
