Okay so Lent goes from Feb. 13th to March 29th. And we abstain from meat on fridays and the day Lent starts. Also on the day that Lent starts we are suppose to fast (and on the last day is what it says on my calander). 13th: fast and abstain, 29th: fast and abstain, and all fridays in between: abstain.

My question is this: Are we suppose to fast everyday during Lent? Or just the fridays and the wednesday during lent?

We are obliged (so long as you are healthy enough and of age) to fast on ash wednesday and good friday. We abstain from meat on every friday of lent. We are also to take on a personal spirit of penance and willing to change and challenge ourselves throughout all of lent.

If you’re at least 14, you’re supposed to abstain from meat on Ash Wednesday, Good Friday, and the Fridays of Lent.

If you’re between 18 and 60, you’re supposed to fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. If you have a medical reason why fasting would be unhealthy for you, you are not obligated to fast. (In this context, ‘fasting’ just means having one full meal, but you are also allowed to eat at two other times in the day, as long as they don’t add up to another full meal.)

That’s all that you’re required to do. In the spirit of Lent, if you want to do additional penance, maybe by abstaining on additional days, or by observing additional days of fasting, you’re free to do so … but the Church doesn’t require you to do so.
