Question about mass offering

Is it mandatory to give money as mass offering? Is it a sin to not give mass offering?
 
It’s not required, but why wouldn’t you? Is it because you can’t afford it, or because you don’t want to?
 
I forgot to being my money and didn’t know it for a couple of minutes.
 
Forgetfulness is forgetfulness. You could bring it the next time you’re at that parish, maybe?

Set a reminder on your phone that goes off before you leave your house.
 
We don’t sacrifice animals anymore . But we give nonetheless other ways today.
 
I hope that everyone keeps in mind that many of us have arranged with the parish to have an amount deducted each week from our accounts. So we don’t put anything in the basket (unless there is a special offering for a missionary, or some other charitable outreach of the parish).

Please don’t think we’re withholding from the Lord and His Church!
 
Yes, I agree. I too like the idea of a box where you drop in your envelope or money. No need to interrupt the flow of mass with taking up collections, sometimes 2 collections. One usher can move the collection to a basket for the offertory and that’s it.
 
We put the basket below the steps to the altar. Also, there are very few occassions when the ushers would move smaller baskets to each row.
 
I’m sure it can’t be required, per se.Thats simony. But it’s a kind custom. When I’ve been short on money I donate a couple dollars and enlist my loved ones on those lists where the Mass is said for everyone who mails in names (could be a million people!) I know it’s not as individual as a special parish Mass… but the graces of the Mass are infinite so I figure my loved ones are being well-remembered during the Holy sacrifice. And I feel less bad about sending $2 along with 10 names that way!

After more than one time brining multiple checks that accumulated on the counter, I just set up an autopay with my bank, and another for candles, and another for our monthly poor collection.
 
Indeed. Simony is a mortal sin. Pope Gregory VII fought against simony. It is part of the Gregorian reforms that started with Pope Alexander IV.
 
I believe it is required that you support your parish. It’s one of the six precepts of the church. The other ones are attend mass on Sunday, fast during appointed times, confess at least once a year, receive communion during Easter time, and obey the church’s rules on marriage.
