As I 've been providing the Mass Readings, I have run onto a question. I have found that every once in a while I find that the EWTN site provides different Scripture Readings than the USCCB site, such as July 21st. I have also found that the EWTN site has some errors every now and then. But my question is this, are there some areas that provide different ones at times? I just assumed that the whole Church went with the same readings all the time. Any help on this would be very much appreciated. Thank you!

Here are the links that I was talking about. ewtn.com/devotionals/inspiration.htm#21

I did a little research into my OP, and it appears that there are some different local calendars and so on. For the most part it appears to all be real close.

Here is a quote from the USCCB
This site posts only the reading listed in the official Liturgical Calendar for the United States. However, the priest celebrating a Mass may have many other choices for readings, including the readings for a saint’s feast day, a Mass in honor of the Blessed Virgin, or a votive Mass [link to glossary definition].
This was news to me! My guess is that the EWTN site goes with a slightly different one that focuses on the saints feasts days.

The calendar here offers the option to celebrate either:
Mon 21 Monday of week 16 of the year
or Saint Laurence of Brindisi, priest, Doctor
I have noticed that EWTN uses many of the feasts, rather than ordinary time readings. For instance, I was quite surprised on Saturday, July 12th that the priests on EWTN wore white vestments and celebrated the feast of St. Veronica. Since I pray the LOTH, I was concerned that my breviary did not have this memorial mentioned for July 12th, and thought maybe I needed to buy a new breviary. 😦

When I checked the calendar, however, St. Veronica is not even listed as an option.

Go figure?

Thank you for your reply!

I must say that I like the way EWTN has their Mass Readings laid out, even though they have made errors at times, which I have caught from time to time. I don’t know who puts their Readings together but they need to be more careful. I wish that I had an email address to that one so that I could make them aware, because I do watch it very close.
