I attended my first Divine Liturgy on Sunday and I have to say, It was a very enjoyable service. I don’t have any plans to attend Eastern Rite services exclusively, but I will definitely attend at least once a month. The question I have is, we received communion during the liturgy with the spoon, but at the end of the service just before everyone left, we walked down the center aisle and kissed the hand cross and received another piece of bread. Was the second piece of bread the body of Christ

z. Bohom,

Non consecrated bread is given at the end called Antidoron. In the eastern Catholic churches of the Byzantine tradition, this may be done, but the frequency of occurrence varies.

I was told that part of the loaf is cut out to be consecrated and the bread given out afterwards is from the unconsecrated part.
The Divine Liturgy I sometimes attend is I think called Ruthenian Byzantine. Some of the people there are of Greek descent. It’s a small group and very accepting of visitors.

No it is the same as the Consecrated bread but it is blessed over the Consecrated bread which means it is more than just bread.

I had not put the word not after "no it is " so I apologize over my typing error. The word “not” should have been there.
