I really am posing this to everyone, Catholic or not. When a person claims that God told them to start a new denomination, and they do, is it naturally a part of their “revelation” that God can only or has only guided them and has never reveiled anything to anyone else? Let us say for arguements sake that a man sudenly shows up on TV with some sort of new form of Chrisitanty, radically different than any that exist today. Why should we beleive that God spoke to him about this and has ignored all other Christians up to this point? Further, why should we accept his claims when he says that we are to only follow him?

I hope this post makes sense. I am not talking about those who break away from or reform a denomination. I am asking about those who present radically new ideas about God. By whose authority?

Undoubtedly this is so, as they belive the other churches are not teaching what God has said and wants. We see this happening all the time, and whatever ‘name’ they give their group, it is called nondenominational.

Because he tells us that God revealed it through the Holy Spirit, and gullible people are looking for that special prophet. If they have a problem with a church, they hunt for someone who claims to have the answers to those problems.

Kotton

That is one of the reasons/questions that brought me to the Catholic Church otherwise, Whose Holy Spirit am I suppossed to believe?

The Real Presence of Christ as confirmed by the Bible brought me to the CC. History of Christianity, the Church Fathers and the Bible keep me there.

BTW what is more radical than Scripture alone instead of Scripture + Sacred Tradition?

i personally think the best answer is found in the parable that Christ told in response to a question by a pharisee… about his casting out demons… the pharisee accused Christ of being in league with the devil because he spoke to the demon… and Christ response was that the devil casting out demons made no sence because it would be a house divided against itself and could not stand (forgive me for butchering the parable, but my new testament is not close by) in other words, it would implode, it can’t survive deposing itself… that’s the way i feel about revelation of other faiths… makes no sence for Christ to establish faiths at odds with the Church he founded… what do you think? 👍

Further, why should we accept his claims when he says that we are to only follow him? I think Saint Paul answered this problem in Galatians 1:6-9 I am amazed that you are so quickly forsaking the one who called you by (the) grace (of Christ) for a different gospel (not that there is another). But there are some who are disturbing you and wish to pervert the gospel of Christ. But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach (to you) a gospel other than the one that we preached to you, let that one be accursed! As we have said before, and now I say again, if anyone preaches to you a gospel other than the one that you received, let that one be accursed!
