Stac4Grace:
I hope this is the right place for this question. For those of you who send your children to PSR (CCD), what time do the classes start and what time do they finish? Also, what month do they start and finish? Thanks and God bless.
every parish is different, depends on the availability of the space, needs of the volunteer catechists, and the families. Some have it Sunday morning, some Saturday morning, some weekdays or weeknights. When I was in Aurora before they built a parish hall with classroom space we lease space in the public school, so it could only be held Saturday morning, and catechists had to carry everything they needed. In my parish we have two sessions pre-k through 6th on Saturday morning because our school is in use weekdays until 5 pm. Jr. Hi and high school are Tuesday and Wednesday evening respectively.
We start Sept. 10 and end May 3, mainly because that is the way it has always been done. We are required to have 32 hours of instruction minimum, since we go an hour and a half, plus 4 retreat days of 3 hours each, we get our hours in.
RCIA and family program go year-round except July (because I am gone back to Ohio for vacation).
Your diocese has a minimum number of sessions and minimum number of hours of instruction, which I don’t recall offhand but probably about the same. Some parishes have a monthly program that meets longer, 3-4 hours, that is intergenerational, intended for the whole family. We had both conventional CCD plus a monthly parent-run family program for a while in Aurora. Confirmation, Life Teen or other youth programs are another thing altogether, could be monthly, weekly or other arrangement.
