Question about Receiving Eucharist More Than Once in a Day

I came across this on the EWTN website and wanted to know what it means:

Yes, you may receive Communion more than once a day.

A person who has already received the Eucharist may receive it (only) once again on the same day only during a Eucharistic celebration in which the person participates.

The part I’m confused about is “during a Eucharistic celebration in which the person participates.” Does that mean if you’re a lector or a musician in a liturgy you can receive more than once in one day?

Participation in a Mass means you attend and say the prayers expected of the faithful.

When we attend mass, we should all be participating.

It might help if you included the question along with the answer. I think this might refer to different liturgies, such as a Funeral Mass in the morning (or a Nuptial Mass in the afternoon) and then returning to the Saturday Vigil Mass later on that evening.

I seem to recall an elderly Paulist priest telling me the same thing, meaning that you could, conceivably, go to Mass twice in one day and receive Holy Communion twice. He was actually the most orthdox of the lot and I tended to trust him on many things.

I’ll try to look it up in one of my liturgical books, though, because I don’t want to lead you down the wrong path. However, my gut tells me that I’m right. Either way, it would be best for you to look up and post the accompanying question. Having the complete quote would give us a better picture. I tend to trust the experts at EWTN on many things, especially when it comes to liturgy. Colin Donavan, Fr. Levis and Fr. Gantley are all pretty good and rather solid.

Here’s the question:

Can a Catholic receive Holy Communion more than once a day? I attended a retreat Mass on Saturday afternoon and received Holy Communion. On Saturday evening I attended the Vigil mass at my church. I was unsure about receiving communion again so I did not. Please help.

This situation would not be too different from mine. I plan to attend Mass in my parish and then attend a Tridentine Mass at a nearby parish that began offering the Latin Mass in October.

Lets say its Saturday morning and you were in the hospital and a Priest brought you Holy Communion and then you got to go home. You could go to Mass later and still receive Holy Communion. Twice in one day, as long as you attended Mass. If you remained in the hospital and another Priest came to visit you in the evening, you would have to tell him that Fr. so and so came earlier today and that you received.
