I was wondering if it is sacrilegious to recite parts of the Tridentine Mass at home.

I really like the “Oremus” lead-in to the “Pater Noster” and I usually chant it at home before the “Pater Noster.”

I am not a priest, nor a server at the Mass.

But is it okay for me to pray/chant in this way at home?

Thanks.

One of the functions of the Mass is that it is prayer. Good and wee; worded prayer. Unless you start think that you do the same thing as the priest does: reiterate the Sacrifice of Christ, you may freely recite the words, except the exact word of the consecration.

Many see this as the best way to learn the prayer or chant or Latin pronunciations. Or be able to follow the priest better when they do go to Mass.
