This situation isn’t at all applicable to me, as I am only a college student not in a relationship.

But I have wondered about this:

A woman is widowed. She remarries another man. When/if she goes to Heaven, how does that work out? Which man does she spend eternity with as a wife? Is marriage/dating after the death of a spouse wrong? Is it like cheating on your man in Heaven?

Just curious.

Thanks!

This seems to be something similar to what Mormons believe…it’s doctrine they haven’t been able to explain since their faith teaches that Marriage is for eternity (or something along those lines…I’m not sure what the exact vows are).

However…all you need to know is the Christian marriage vows mean “Till death do us part.” This shouldn’t be an issue in Heaven.

You are in Heaven to meet and be with your creator. You are in Heaven to be with God.

You aren’t their to be with your spouse again.

Marriage is for our earthly time only. When one spouse dies, the marriage ends for good.

In addition to what other posters already said, do you remember this passage (Matthew 22:23-33)? I think our Teacher has also the perfect answer to your question.

[BIBLEDRB]Matthew 22:23-33 [/BIBLEDRB]

Jesus is our Spouse in Heaven. It’s a spiritual marriage. Although those in Heaven will also be to see the people they knew in this life who made it to Heaven as well, we will not be married anymore.

Marriage is till death do us part, so the marriage ends with death.

The purposes of marriage in this life are the good of the spouses (to lead each other to heaven) and procreation (children). In Heaven, we’ve already achieved our goal and there are no new children. 👍

But I have wondered about this:

A woman is widowed. She remarries another man. * There is no moral issue, per se. She has the natural right to get married, again. It is natural, it is normal, it is not immoral, it is not sinful, per se and by principle.*

When/if she goes to Heaven, how does that work out? Which man does she spend eternity with as a wife? *The natural marriage and the sacramental marriage is for the natural life, is for the life of blue planet, on the Earth.
*

Is marriage/dating after the death of a spouse wrong? * Absolutely, not. It is not morally wrong, it is not sinful. Why that would be wrong??? Only the wrong culturalism coming from the heresies and ideologies (victorianism, puritanism, some protestanismes, some moralist person, some wierd mentalities)*

Is it like cheating on your man in Heaven? * Of course, not. No, No, No.

Only catholic doctrine is the Truth (the naturality, the sur-naturality, the normality, the justice, the natural goodness, the charity, the morality, the conjugal love, the conjugal charity).*

Just curious.

Thanks!

My unofficial opinion is that when we live eternally in the glorious presence of God, everyone will love everyone else with a love so much greater than the love we know here on earth that it will not matter who was married to whom.

That’s pretty much the official opinion, so you’re in good shape. 👍

There is a contradiction here. If the church held that people remain married to one another in heaven, then the woman in question wouldn’t be allowed to remarry to begin with. The official position of the church is that marriage ends at death, which is exactly why remarrriage is allowed for widows/widowers.

That said, I can understand where you are coming from. I’m not married either, but if I were married and my wife died, I don’t know if I would remarry.

Thank you everyone for clearing this up! For some reason I had the false idea that people were still married even in Heaven. But now I get it!

I think I’ll elaborate on what happens after death. It’s true that you’re reunited with your spouse after death. It’s just that you aren’t reunited as husband and wife–you are simply united as souls in heaven.
