Im not sure if this board is the right one for this this topic, but feel free to move it if it fits better on another board.

I was reading another thread about going to confession for our sins, and began to wonder what would our lives be like today had Jesus NOT died on the cross, and our sins would not be ‘bought and paid for’?

Im assuming we would not go to confession, as it wouldnt matter, since God has not done anything about sin…right?

Also curious why we still must confess and ask God for forgiveness, since they have already been bought and paid for by him dying on the cross?

Am I wrong to think that sin in general is SOOO powerful, it literally made God act (by sending Jesus to the world so he could be crucified)?

Im also confused about why all other sins were covered by him dying on the cross, except for original sin…Seems like Jesus went thru ALOT of suffering, so really, IMO, original sin should have also been included in this. I know it was not, but curious what God would have had to do for this to be covered…Im assuming it would require much more than Jesus dying the cross…right?

Strange that God/Jesus was willing to endure that level of suffering as a man for JUST SOME sins and not ALL sin…? I mean, this was God…he couldve said, original sin WILL be included with the other sins!

Im no apologist but here arey thoughts…

When we say Christ paid for our sins, He did, and by doing so reconciled humanity as a whole with God, reopening the Gates of Heaven once again. In other words, Jesus’ sacrifice made it possible for humans to be saved, but does not directly save us. We, our faith and our actions, determine where we will go but only because Jesus made that possible. Therefore, we are not saved so long as we’re alive.

Keep going.😃

What you are describing is Original Sin. “Reopening the Gates of Heaven once again” brings back memories of learning about original Adam who is the first parent of humankind and therefore he had an unique relationship with his Divine Creator.

When we go back to the Garden of Eden, we find God explaining how it can be that a human creature can actually have an intimate relationship with a Divine Being. Genesis 2: 15-17 clearly points out that in order for Adam to live and remain in a friendship relationship with a transcendent, supernatural Pure Spirit Creator God, he would have to live in free submission to God, aka, full obedience. When Adam abused his freedom by choosing himself over God and against the requirements of his creaturely status and therefore against his own good, his defiant act (Original Sin) shattered humanity’s relationship with Divinity. When this important and necessary relationship ceased to exist, the open gates to heaven slammed shut. As a human creature, Adam did not have the power to open those gates. Only a Person Who was True God and True Man could do so.

As Thorns said “When we say Christ paid for our sins, He did, and by doing so reconciled humanity as a whole …” As True Man, Christ obeyed God as Adam should have done. As True God, Christ had the Divine Power to offer proper expiation for Original Sin.

Aww, O.S my best topic.

Your question in red.
My attempt at an answer :
We are born again when we are baptised into christ, thus o.s is wiped away. Why it is not wiped away since Christ payed for the sin of Adam I’m not sure…that’s why O.S is my best topic 😃
But that’s the easiest way I understand, we are taught we were born “fallen” but lifted up when baptised.
👍
