Yesterday I had the wonderful experience of assisting at a Solemn High Pontifical Mass. Auxiliary Bishop, Joseph N. Perry, of the Archdiocese of Chicago presided at this Mass. It was truly magnificent!!!
The occasion of the Mass was part of the (I believe annual) national convention of the Latin Liturgy Association that was held in Detroit this year.
This Mass was held at a very beautiful historic Church in Detroit: St. Josephat Catholic Church
Anyway - my question is this: The Bishop had more than one miter that he wore during Mass. There was a very highly decorated one, and then a more plain one. I am wondering who knows what dictates when he wears which one? I seem to recall him wearing both at different times in the Mass, but could not figure out a connection between when he would wear the plain or the decorated.
Thanks!
