I’m sorry, I wasn’t sure where to post this.

One of my cousins just killed himself and I’m really struggling with it. 😦 I’ve been praying for God to allow him into his kingdom.

I’ve done a few internet searches but so far, I haven’t found anything with a straight answer. What will happen to my cousin’s soul?

This was a complete shock to everyone. He was such an innocent and had the biggest heart of anyone that I know. He was very devout.

He suffered a great indignity and was so ashamed that he took his own life only a few hours later. He obviously didn’t think it through and was just acting on pure emotion. 😦 Ugh. I just wish he’d talked to someone first…

Three things are necessary for a sin to be mortal:
  1. Grave matter
  2. Full knowledge that the act is of grave matter
  3. Full consent of the will
Frankly I’m not convinced that most people who take their own lives are really in control of their will and only God knows what their state of mind was. I would continue to pray for your cousin’s soul and trust in God’s everlasting mercy.

God exists outside of time. I suggest that you have some Masses said for your cousin and pray for his soul. It will all be taken into account. Who knows? At the moment of death he may have had a split second where he repented.

One evening, my cell phone rang - it was a dear friend telling me that my former Priest (I’d moved away) had killed himself. This was a very hard - and I pray for his soul often. I will pray for your friend.

Straight from the Catechism
2283 We should not despair of the eternal salvation of persons who have taken their own lives. By ways known to him alone, God can provide the opportunity for salutary repentance. The Church prays for persons who have taken their own lives.
May God rest his soul.

Remember God knows the circumstances of every souls life. Was there a mental issue here? Most of the time in these cases there is? God will judge the soul accordingly. Pray the Divine Mercy Chaplet for him as well.
I have heard from some pretty good nun’s that the soul is not judged until the body is in the ground. Now whether or not this is true only God knows. It just says there is still time for all of us to pray for his soul.

Thank you again… He didn’t have any mental problems that I knew of. He was always very quiet but he was such a good heart and was always smiling. I think he was very shy. He just got married in October and he had everything going for him. We just are all so sad. 😦

What I bolded above is very important. 'that you knew of’…there obviously was something going on you did not know of. There has to be with someone who takes his own life. Don’t despair. God is a loving Father who wants us all home with him. His mercy is endless and his love is unrelenting.

My greatest sympathy to you & your family in this tragic time.

I agree: Pray & trust in God’s love. :gopray:

what if you commit suicide to avoid going to heaven?

or if you do something you know will have fatal results but will take some time such as consume poisonous mushrooms to wipe out your liver, or consume a few bottles of acetiminiphen for the same reasons, knowing the liver is gonna become useless which will in a short time cause your death becausae you wont allow a transplant??

lets also assume this person will never repent because he dont want to go to heaven, just wants to die and be left alone period by heaven and hell… is it even possible??

any insight would be nice??
