So I have been looking at these tapes for social anxiety for some time. socialanxietyinstitute.com/audioseries.html .
To buy them for $319.00 seems to be a very high price. Someone is offering me mp3 versions of the tapes for free over the internet. It seems obvious that it would be wrong to accept them. what do you think?

it depends on the LICENSE AGREEMENT of the tapes. if they are indeed sold in MP3 format, then technically your freind can “loan” them to you, provided you destroy them after a resonable period quite like he lent you the tapes themselves. i lend freinds DVD’s all the time, but i dont copy them and freely give them.

the license isn’t available online as far as I can tell, and they are not sold as mp3s, only as cds, and cassettes.

yes, I’m almost sure they would.
Is there research supporting their effectiveness?

yes. these are done by a specialist in Cognitive Behavior Therapy, specifically for social anxiety. I have talked to several others who have used them, and they agree that they are worth the high price.

I can’t advise you about the tapes, but I have heard great things about coginitive behavioural therapy for social anxiety disorder. I’ll see if i can dig anything up.

"How can social anxiety be treated? Many therapeutic methods have been studied, but cognitive-behavioral therapy is the only modality that has been shown to work effectively. In fact, treatment of social anxiety through cognitive-behavioral methods has the capacity to produce long-lasting, permanent relief from the anxiety-laden world of social anxiety."

“To overcome social anxiety, completion of a** behavioral therapy group is also essential** (when people feel ready for this and not before).”

Before I spent that kind of money, I would look for a local support group that would provide this kind of therapy for little or no cost. They will often buy the same set of tapes and then 'share" with their group members.
