I heard that this prayer forgives mortal sins
Does that mean you don’t have to go to confession and can receive communion?

That’s not how I take it but I’m wondering

I take it as like an act of perfect contrition and to go to confession later and not receive communion but be forgiven

I say this prayer after everytime I fall into my addiction and it is a truly powerful, simple, and hopeful devotion.

Thank you for any answers

It cannot replace Confession, but it can strengthen your repentance.

As the other poster said, it cannot replace the sacrament of confession. But as it gives you help and support, by all means. We can also trust that people on this thread will offer you prayers to assist you.

Besides talking with your priest, you also might want to look into Catholic - based spiritual/clinical supports to overcome your addiction. For many kinds of addiction, there are Catholic models of support nowadays, either online, groups, books, and other helps.

Jesus Is not bound by his Catholic Church, he can do whatever he wants.
