Question about the types of faiths there are

I rember reading this chart like thing about religion and one of the boxes to the side says “types of faith”.I know some like monotheism,polytheism,monism,henotheism,agnosticism,atheism,pantheism and panenthism (I dont understand the second last one very well and I dont understand that last one very well).
Personally, I think that there are some people who for one reason or another you cant really classify what type of faith they follow.Does anyone know of any more “types of faith”?.I would like to know the Forums opions on this.Thank you very much so for your time.

I don’t think you can classify faith in that way. You can classify beliefs (I believe this, you believe that) and you can distinguish between religions, but even here you have to differentiate between religion, which is more existential than being religious. Studying a religion can never truly make you religious, or even give you experience of what it means to be religious. To do that you have to have faith and immerse yourself in the ceremony and customs that constitute the practice of that religion.

It looks to me like the list you put on here is kind of by how many or what kinds of “gods” the religion is about. Personally I’ve never heard of “henotheism,” so thanks! I’ll look that up. Personally, I find the most intruging one to be panentheism. Whoa! A mouthful to say, and it sounds like deep stuff!

Did you know, I found out that religons are classified by some scholars as “ascending” and “descending,” as well as “exoteric” and “esoteric?” There are also those who add occult, new age, idolatry, and nature as categories. There is also some who classify philosohy in some cases as a “religion” and even go so far as to say science, political views, and even evolution can be religions.

I have a question. I’m new here and have not really found my way around yet. I’m an rcia candidate. I was invited to an El Shaddai meeting today. Can anyone tell me how , where this fits in with the catholic faith. Or please direct me to where I can find answers. Thanks . God Bless

Can you explain what an El Shaddai meeting is and what takes place there? Was this within the context of your RCIA classes?

Agnostics would dispute the classification of their view as a faith but obviously they have faith in their judgment that the existence of God cannot be proved or disproved! In practice very few people, if any, live as agnostics because it would mean regularly praying and thanking God as if He exists!
