I need help knowing how a Catholic should view elective plastic surgery (by elective I mean purely for cosmetic reasons - not medically necessarry or needed to treat a deformity, disease or condition). Citations (or even specific quotes) from the Bible, Church Faters, Catechism and writings of the Popes (like PJP II’s Theology of the Body) would be greatly appreciated.
I am asking because I was trying to explain to someone that we are more than bodies, we are spiritual also and that the push in American society today to have “elective plastic surgery” to make one “beautiful” is disordered and against the faith. The person refused to listen unless I could back my statement up with more than “my own opinion”. Can you guys help?
Thanks and God Bless!!!
