Question concerning principle of subsidiarity

Is it true that the Catholic principle of subsidiarity is not absolute?
 
I can’t imagine what absolute subsidiarity would look like. I suppose it would be a society in which young children did absolutely everything in society (and therefore humanity would quickly become extinct.
