Question for all Catholics on this forum: LOTH [edited]

Do you know what the Liturgy of the Hours is? I’ve initiated this poll out of curiosity about the forum’s visitors.
 
My reverent NO parish prays LOTH every day before daily Mass. Well, not quite–not before the school Mass.
 
Me too. It just seems as though the day goes smoother when you start it off right.

But my church doesn’t do it and so far as I know, none of the local parishes do it.
 
Yep. It’s been an on-and-off habit for quite a while, but it’s one of my “new year’s resolutions” to pray the hours daily. So far, so good.

It does help get the day off right. 👍

Being new to the Catholic church, I started regularly praying every hour of the LotH about 3 weeks ago; I can’t tell you how much it has helped me grow in faith, and even how much calmer I am.

No churches around here recite it publicly (that I know of) but I’d like to ask the priest at our campus ministry if I could help set up at least a noon time Daytime Prayer on campus or something. I think it would be a great way to share the Catholic faith with a majority protestant public university, and show other Catholics an example of living faith in daily life.

I currently pray Sunday night Vespers, usually on Sunday night 😉
Soon to get the books, then…Vespers every night? ooh discernment!! 👍
 
I’ve been trying to pray them every day, but I’ve not quite developed the habit yet… I hope to have it a bit more instituted within the next few weeks because I think the 2 or so hours a day that it takes to pray them (by myself, anyways) is what I’m “giving up” for Lent.

I just prayed Vespers for the first time in a community last night… I just wish that parish wasn’t 35 miles away… 😦 Or that I had a car right now.

It should not take two hours. I can pray Morning Prayer and the Office of Readings together in less than a 1/2 hour, and that is not rushing through it. Evening prayer is shorter and takes maybe 10 minutes. When I do pray the other hours they take maybe 5 minutes each and Compline is the shortest and can be done in less than 5 minutes.
 
Ha! That’s if you can hold yourself to the text 😃 I I find that once I am in a quiet place where I can have interrupted prayer, LotH is a springboard to contemplation, and I end up staying there for a long, long time.

It cracks me up, coming out of a protestant denomination that despises “rote” prayer, because I want that rote prayer, and can’t always stay with it. One thing I like best about LotH is that if you stick with it for a while, you end up covering all the bases–praying for things we might not remember on our own, following the liturgical cycle and catching feasts and memorials, etc.

I should have been a cloistered nun. . .either that or I really need a weeklong silent retreat!
