Part of my question is about the use of the word “worship” and possible differences in meaning between that usage and what we mean today by the word. (For instance, Catholics are often accused of worshipping Mary, whereupon we always respond that we don’t worship Mary, worship is only for God. From this it looks like the original English meaning of the word is something broader than the way it’s used today.)
