Ok, in Our Lord’s revelations to Sr. Mary of St. Peter regarding devotion to His Holy Face, He tells her that He wants Holy Face devotees to pray each day a Pater, Ave, and Gloria followed by the Golden Arrow prayer, and that is what is urged in one of two Manuals of the Confraternity of the Holy Face that I have (both come from different Carmelite monasteries). But in the other Manual of the Confraternity of the Holy Face, it tells devotees to daily pray a Pater, Ave, Gloria . . . but the prayer “Behold, O God our protector, and look upon the Face of Thy Christ” or “Lord, show us Thy Face, and we shall be saved” instead of the Golden Arrow. So which is it? And why would the confraternity, or rather different branches of it, require something different from what Our Lord asked?

There’s no mention of Sr. Maria Pierina or her visions in either of my manuals — all the focus is on Sr. Mary of St. Peter and, to a lesser degree, Ven. Leon DuPont. The materials in both of them date back to well before Sr. Maria Pierina anyway. So no, in this case it’s not merely a case of different visionaries saying different things.

David it is a private devotion. Whatever you pray wont be wrong.
There is a website for the devotion to the Holy Face, they send out chaplets and a cross and a little prayer book. (not at the moment due to covid)
They have downloadable booklets of prayers.

I pray the Golden Arrow Prayer which Sr. Mary of St. Peter said was given to her by Christ. I am not sure why the different confraternities are recommending different prayers. If your intention is to honor the Holy Face of Jesus and make an act of reparation, I can’t imagine that God would be displeased regardless of which confraternity’s recommendation you follow.

I don’t think this has to do with Bl. Maria Pierina. For one thing, I don’t think she was a Carmelite.

It’s my understanding that there are a number of short Holy Face prayers taken from Sr. Marie of St. Peter’s private revelations. Golden Arrow is one and the other prayer also. However, if you want to use the prayer form that was written out by Sr. Marie in 1844, then it can be found on pages 84-85 of the book here, in her own words:

I personally used to say the Holy Face Chaplet according to Fr. Heilman’s instructions and he had both of the prayers you mention in it and then some. (And the medal promulgated by Bl. Maria Pierina.)

Yeah, I’ve used that site a bit. Funny thing is, while on the site they urge praying the Pater, Ave, Gloria, and Golden Arrow each day, they also have an older Holy Face Confraternity manual on the site, and in the latter, as one of the requirements, it lists the daily recitation of the 1st 3 pairs plus 1 of the 2 psalm invocations. Although the Golden Arrow prayer is listed in the manual, it’s presented as though it’s just another good devotional prayer to say if you wish.

That website actually has the correct translation of the Golden Arrow.
