inJesus and Sister Amy, I might have missed a few posts or parts of your posts here, but in Jacob’s case, the reason he had 2 wives instead of one was because his uncle Laban said that according to the law of the land he had to give his eldest daughter first. In Jacob’s heart of hearts, the one he wanted to marry from the beginning was Rachel. So he kinda was forced to take Leah first, but had he had his way, he would have taken Rachel and only her. But then there was a great respect for the customs of the land.
I do believe, having said this, that Leah equally was truly Jacob’s wife, even if Jacob loved Rachel much more.
Now, I believe that in the Torah there is a specific commandment that a man must not get married to a woman and her sister… Jacob came BEFORE Moses’ time, remember that!
