Quite different.
Itās said that marriage should be like a rock tumbler, refining away the rough edges of our personality, yet slowly revealing the beauty that God put into each soul. Marriage in this sense makes saints. A conversion machine.
The idea that we should wait until we find our perfect soulmate is a popular secular myth designed to give us an excuse to delay the ārefinementā needed in us, to allow us to continue to live largely a self-focused lfe, pleasing ourselves, staying comfortable in our routine and circumstances.
I agree that the perfect soulmate idea is a wrong-headed myth. We should reject the secular myth and move forward into breach of marriage. Compatibility, yes, in terms of moral matters, but in the end we need to get converted into the image of Jesus Christ through our marriage, and that can often be hard and humbling work.
But itās work that has to be done if we want to be truly closer to God, and live with Him forever.
