Very random question. My mom has insisted for years that I need to shave my arms. (I shave my underarms, before anyone freaks out. Just not like the actual part of your arm that people see when you wear a tshirt) anyway. I do have dark hair on my arms, but it never particularly bothered me until mom started shaming me for it and saying it’s not sexy (I’m only 17 for goodness sakes). I did shave them for a while, but I got tired of the prickles and let the hair grow back.

So, any of you gals shave your arms? Guys, if you somehow clicked on this topic, what’s your opinion on girls doing that?

It’s a cultural thing. I don’t care if someone doesn’t shave. God made hair and it’s good.

Nope. Heck, it’s winter, I’m not shaving above my knees right now. 😉

If it was something you were self conscious about it would be more practical to use Nair or similar product than to shave.

No, I never have shaved my arms. I personally feel these kinds of decisions are very personal. I would say if you don’t want to do it, don’t do it. If it is something that is causing you discomfort in social situations, I would consider addressing it, either shaving or bleaching the hair; look into options about dealing with it. What is the easiest. But if not, I would just tell your mother it does not make you feel uncomfortable, you don’t want to shave your arms and leave it at that. I would find that comment kind of offensive, even from my mother. If you had approached her about it, soliciting advice, that would be different. But then maybe she means well - I definitely see why you feel uncomfortable. I think I can be overly defensive, sensitive sometimes. You know her motives, mentality better than I do.

I’ve seen girls running around college with those short shorts on in the early morning hours when it is 20 degrees outside.

That takes grit. But as far as I’m concerned they can keep their grit. I’ll have mine with milk near the fire.

Pretty sure that is porridge you’re thinking of. Close though.

I don’t shave my arms. I honestly don’t know anyone who does. My body hair is light colored so the hair on my arms is almost unnoticeable. If I shaved, the stubble from shaving would actually show more than the hair does when I leave it alone. I shave underarms and below my knees and leave it at that. (I understand women now often shave their private parts but I am from the 70s and if you ever looked at a Playboy or Penthouse from that era then you know what that means in terms of culture.)

One time in junior high school I overdid it with some pumice for dry skin removal on my forearms and it removed the hair from my arms, and the other girls thought I had shaved them, and I actually got made fun of for that because shaving arms is not the norm in USA, or at least it wasn’t then.

Dude here… if you want to get rid of it, dont shave- use nair or wax it. Shaving is inefficient at best and just ugly if messed up, especially on arms.

I’ve heard of it, but I don’t think it’s common.

They are your arms, I think you can do what you like.

If the hair does bother you, maybe waxing would be a better option? Get it done professionally. The hair tends to grow back finer.

Also bleaching might help. There used to be a product called Jolene. It bleaches the hair until they are almost invisible.

I used to shave my arms simply because I love the smooth feeling. I’m now at an age where I don’t have to shave at all. And my arms are still as smooth as a baby’s bottom.

Are your hairs dark? You might consider lasering them…it will, not remove all but a lot. I was very dark and harry when a teenager and lived in sunny Ca. I bleached my arm hairs. They were nor as noticeable. I also burnt them off on my moms gas stove…my old moms idea…this was a long long time ago. As I got older they thinned out…lasering works on dark roots and cuts down returning growth. If you can afford it it would be your best bet. They do have personal ones you can buy for about $500 sounds expensive but you own it and can use it as often as you like on small areas and having it done isn’t cheap… Good luck…

There are situations where interventions need to be made, however. Generally they are extraordinary ones, but they need to be vigorously addressed and not go unchecked. All joking aside, I think most of the wisdom I’ve been able to share so far on CAF has come by way of watching the Munsters faithfully from beginning to end.

I say take action and don’t procrastinate making a decision or this may well come to pass. I’m not saying it’s necessarily bad, mind you…
